Resumes Are Going Virtual

I cannot stress enough how doing things "differently" can make you stand out as a potential employee. One way is having a "Virtual Resume." In July 08 article from the NY Times' Shifting Career Blog, they explain how more resumes are going virtual. I don't suggest going completely virtual like the article suggests (unless you want to go into a field that highly supports that "unique subculture").

Having a "virtual resume" should be in addition to your print resume. Besides providing a space to download a digital copy of your resume, it should also allow a viewer to learn more about you. You can allow them to see into the type of work you have previously done, as well as see full lists of your activities and previous employment.

Overall, in this digital world -- having a virtual resume never hurt anyone and should only benefit if you put as much work into it as you put into your print resume.

Places to place your virtual resume:
  • Personal Webspace - buy a domain and space at Netfirms or GoDaddy (I have had Netfirms hosting and domain for over a year now (fast approaching 2 years) and I can say, it's quality hosting and reliable. You can find their special "Netfirms Max" deal for $20 for your first year -- includes 2 domains and hosting. Just call in before it expires next year to downgrade or cancel your space (if you choose to do so)
